Analyst coverage audit · US P&C claims-fraud detection

Analyst coverage audit: US P&C claims-fraud detection vendors (April 2026)

Vendors in the US claims-fraud category cite analyst recognition in marketing copy. Those citations are often accurate but context-stripped: a "#1 overall" from a cross-industry composite does not mean the vendor leads in US P&C claim-fraud specifically. This audit records what the analyst firms actually said, notes the scope each ranking covered, and flags where vendor marketing represents the analyst verdict in ways a buyer might read differently than the analyst intended. The audit covers four analyst franchises where US P&C claim-fraud vendors appear: Chartis FCC50, Forrester Wave (both AML and the older Insurance Fraud Analytics franchise), Celent, and Gartner. Four vendors are covered: Shift Technology, FRISS, NICE Actimize, and CLARA Analytics. Every cell is stamped with a lastVerified date. Where Phidea could not verify a claim against public primary sources, the cell is marked "unknown" rather than guessed. Where we could only verify against vendor-cited extracts (not the full paid analyst report), the verificationNote on the franchise explains.

Not covered (Cool Vendor is early-stage; NICE Actimize was established)
verified 2026-04-24
⚠ Context-stripped
NICE Actimize marketing pages frequently list 'Chartis FCC50 #1 2024' and 'Forrester Wave AML Leader Q2 2025' in close proximity to insurance-fraud-oriented content without noting that both rankings are cross-industry or banking-weighted. A buyer reading NICE's insurance-focused marketing could reasonably infer NICE is the leading US P&C claim-fraud vendor. Chartis and Forrester did not say that.

Franchise scope caveats

  • Chartis FCC50 2024
    Chartis Research · Cross-industry financial-crime-and-compliance composite · last published refresh 2024
FCC50 weighs banking AML, payments fraud, and insurance fraud together in one composite. A top-10 placement reflects combined strength; it does not isolate US P&C claim-fraud leadership.
Verification: Full FCC50 report is paid-access. Audit uses Chartis public press releases, vendor-cited extracts cross-referenced across vendor pages, and third-party industry summaries.
  • Forrester Wave — Anti-Money Laundering Solutions, Q2 2025
    Forrester Research · Anti-money-laundering software, banking-weighted · last published refresh 2025-Q2
This Wave is scoped to AML/CFT compliance software, not claim-fraud detection. Insurance carriers with AML exposure (large multi-line, reinsurance-adjacent) should consider this ranking; US P&C claim-fraud buyers should not.
Verification: Full Wave is paid-access. Leader list and scope confirmed via Forrester public press release and multiple vendor cross-citations.
  • Forrester Wave — Insurance Fraud Analytics 2020
Forrester Research · Insurance-fraud specific · last published refresh 2020
This is the most recent Forrester Wave scoped specifically to insurance-fraud analytics. It is six years old as of this audit. Forrester has not published a 2021-2026 refresh in this franchise. Buyers should weight it accordingly: positioning was current as of 2020; vendor product roadmaps have moved.
Verification: Referenced via multiple vendor marketing pages and industry summaries; Phidea did not verify against the full paid Forrester report.
  • Celent 2024-2025 anti-fraud coverage
Celent (a division of Oliver Wyman Group) · Insurance-specific technology coverage; qualitative classifications rather than a single ranking · last published refresh 2024-2025
Celent does not publish a single headline ranking equivalent to a Forrester Wave. Instead it publishes multiple reports annually that classify vendors qualitatively ('Luminary', 'Broad Play', 'Technology Trend coverage'). Each classification applies to the specific report's scope.
Verification: Classifications cross-referenced from vendor press releases and Celent public summaries; full reports are paid-access.
  • Gartner Cool Vendor 2017
Gartner · Early-stage insurance vendor recognition · last published refresh 2017
Gartner Cool Vendor is not an ongoing annual franchise; it is a one-time designation signalling early-stage promise. A 2017 Cool Vendor designation is not equivalent to a 2026 Magic Quadrant placement.
Verification: Gartner Cool Vendor 2017 for Shift Technology confirmed via vendor press release and industry summaries.

What Phidea could not verify

  • Per-capability scores within Chartis FCC50 2024 and Forrester Wave 2025 — both reports are paid-access.
  • Whether Forrester is planning a 2026-2027 insurance-fraud-specific Wave refresh (the last such Wave is 2020).
  • Whether the vendors being audited have current-quarter marketing pages that differ materially from the snapshots Phidea reviewed — marketing pages are updated continuously and this audit is a point-in-time capture.
  • Celent classifications across all 2024-2025 reports — Celent publishes multiple reports per year and Phidea's audit covers the ones we could surface from public channels.
