Under the Commercial Agreement, Root built 'Carvana Insurance Built with Root' — a 3-click insurance purchase integrated into Carvana's online used-car checkout — and is the exclusive embedded insurance provider for Carvana customers in the 36 states where Root is licensed. Root pays commissions to Carvana on bound policies. The partnership was accompanied by a $126M Series A Convertible Preferred Stock investment by Carvana Group, LLC (closed October 1, 2021 after HSR clearance) convertible at $9.00/share into approximately 14M Class A shares (~5% on a fully-diluted basis), plus eight tranches of warrants. On April 14, 2026 Root and Carvana jointly announced the program had surpassed 200,000 policies sold.
