What it does
Hyperscience is the incumbent "modern" intelligent-document-processing (IDP) platform for regulated industries — the one you'd buy before LLMs made the problem feel solvable with a well-prompted API call. Founded in 2014 by Peter Brodsky, Vladimir Tzankov, and Krasimir Marinov.
Funding and scale. Roughly $289M raised across Series A (2016, $18M), Series B (2019, $30M), Series C (2020, $60M, Bessemer), and Series E (2021, $100M, Tiger, Bessemer, Stripes). That capital base puts Hyperscience well ahead of the newer LLM-wrapper entrants on enterprise deployment muscle.
Analyst position. Hyperscience is the most analyst-validated tool in Phidea's current dataset: Leader in the first-ever 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for IDP Solutions (positioned furthest right for Completeness of Vision), Leader and Star Performer in Everest Group's 2025 IDP Products PEAK Matrix, and #1 overall for capabilities in ISG's 2024 IDP Buyers Guide.
Insurance footprint. Named customers in insurance and adjacent financial services include Guardian Life, QBE, and Voya Financial. Beyond insurance, Mars, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the International Rescue Committee, and HM Revenue and Customs are cited — useful signal of security and compliance posture for regulated carriers.
Where it sits in old → new → AI. Legacy carriers run document intake on OnBase, FileNet, or offshore data entry. Hyperscience is the "modern" rung: CNN-and-template-based extraction with human-in-the-loop review. The AI-native rung above Hyperscience — Roots, Indico with LLMs, or agentic IDP — is now active. The open question for a CIO: does Hyperscience's enterprise depth and analyst validation outweigh the model quality of newer LLM-native entrants?
