What it does
OneShield Software is a US-headquartered modern core-suite vendor for P&C insurance. Founded 1999, based in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It is the mid-market-focused peer to Guidewire and Duck Creek: same modern rung, deliberately different customer tier.
Ownership. OneShield went through a search-fund acquisition in September 2020 led by brothers Cameron and Brandon Parker, with Pacific Lake Partners and Bain Capital Credit as anchor investors. A follow-on round of $50M closed in January 2022 led by Pacific Lake with participation from Bain Capital Credit, Maven Equity Partners, WSC & Company, and Peterson Partners. In February 2025 Accel-KKR Credit Partners provided additional growth financing. The company is private-equity / growth-capital backed; it is not owned by Diversis Capital.
Products. Two product lines. OneShield Enterprise (OSE) is the flagship: a configurable policy, billing, and claims suite with rating, reporting, and product-factory tooling, deployable on-prem or in the cloud and aimed at full-balance-sheet carriers. OneShield Market Solutions (OMS) is a SaaS, as-a-service bundle — policy + billing + claims + portals — aimed at MGAs, program administrators, and startup carriers that want fast time-to-market without running the platform themselves. Both products support commercial, specialty, workers' comp, personal auto, and home lines.
Named customers. PURE (Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange) is the marquee reference: high-net-worth personal lines carrier, OneShield customer for over two decades, and one of the most-cited modern-PAS deployments outside the Guidewire ecosystem. HAI Group went live on OSE Platform 7 for General Liability and Excess products in November 2024. Accident Insurance Company runs workers' comp and specialty commercial on OMS. Forrest T. Jones went live on OMS for Educators Professional Liability in December 2023. Falcon Risk Services selected OMS in 2021 for full policy-to-claims administration. The customer mix skews toward MGAs and specialty carriers rather than top-10 national P&C names — by design.
Analyst coverage. Celent maintains full VendorMatch profiles for OneShield Enterprise Policy, OneShield Enterprise Claims, OneShield Market Solutions, OneShield Market Solutions Claims, and OneShield Reporting — OneShield is a recurring participant in Celent's North American PAS, BMS, and claims vendor assessments.
Positioning against Guidewire and Duck Creek. The mid-market story is explicit. Guidewire PolicyCenter and Duck Creek Policy are tier-1 platforms, priced and implementation-scaled for the top 25 carriers; typical implementations run 18-36 months and require a partner ecosystem (EY, Deloitte, Cognizant, Capgemini) to deliver. OneShield targets the tier below — regional carriers, specialty writers, and MGAs that need a real modern core but cannot absorb a Guidewire-scale program. OMS in particular competes in a segment where Guidewire does not play: MGAs with sub-$100M GWP who want a turnkey SaaS core, not a platform they have to operate. The trade-off is ecosystem depth — the systems-integrator bench for OneShield is smaller, and carriers needing a specific tier-1 reinsurance or global-treaty surface will still choose Guidewire.
Where it sits in old → new → AI. OneShield is a pure modern-rung vendor. AI is layered on top rather than native; underwriting-augmentation vendors (Federato, Planck) and pricing vendors (Akur8) integrate on top of OneShield the same way they do on top of Guidewire. For a mid-market P&C carrier leaving a mainframe or an older Insurity/Duck Creek Classic installation, OneShield is the most common modern-core alternative to the Guidewire/Duck Creek/Majesco trio.
